Intro to K9 Nose Work®

Intro to K9 Nose Work® is a 6-week long introductory scent work class based on the principles of K9 Nose Work® (more information on K9 Nose Work® here).

It starts with getting your dog excited about using his nose to seek out a favourite treat or toy reward hidden in one of several boxes. This class introduces the concept of the sport, builds your dog’s independent hunting ability through each of the four elements (containers, interiors, exteriors, and vehicles), and builds handler observation skills.

It’s easy to learn and helps dogs to build confidence, focus, and drive. It’s an excellent way to keep your dog fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise. All dogs can play this dog sport – puppies, elderly dogs, mobility impaired dogs, fearful dogs, and all dogs in between. In classes, dogs work one at a time and rest crated between searches, so reactive dogs can enjoy this sport as well.

Requirements

  • Your dog should be a minimum of 6 months old
  • Up-to-date core vaccines or a positive titre test not older than a year
  • All dogs must be crated either in your vehicle or on-site when they are not in the search area – no exceptions. If you need help crate training your dog, please email us or call Brigette at 604.522.1002.
